Have you ever considered staying at a Napa Valley Bed and Breakfast?

Lots of folks come to Napa each year. Everyone has their own reasons for the journey-- tasting wine, enjoying the local restaurants, exploring the Napa Valley wineries . . . Still others come to celebrate a special event-- a birthday, anniversary, or even a honeymoon! Whatever brings you to our Napa bed and breakfast, we want you to have a great time.

One advantage to staying at a bed and breakfast rather than a hotel is that your hosts are locals who know the best spots in the area. We visit the local Napa Valley and Sonoma wineries ourselves, so we can pass on what it's like to taste wine there. We especially love the small, family-owned Napa wineries, where you can often meet the owner or winemaker.

We enjoy going to our local Napa restaurants, gourmet grocery stores, and other "foodie" fun spots. We also have favorite places and wineries for a perfect picnic. Do you want to know where the locals shop for wine? Or where we go to taste cheese? How about the local chocolate shops? We would love to tell you about our favorites!

There is more to the Napa Valley than food and wine, there are many wonderful area activities: We've been on the Napa Wine Train, and we can share what it feels like to ride in the impeccably restored Pullman cars as the wine country vistas glide by. For those who enjoy the outdoors, we can arrange for bike rentals, balloon rides, horseback riding, and many other great things to see and do. We have some very special places for hiking, from ridge walks to relaxing country lanes, with beautiful views of the vineyards and mountains. Be sure to put the Oxbow Public Market on your agenda. It's only about a 20-minute walk (4-min drive) from our inn, and it's amazing.

Comprised of several of Napa's Historic Landmark houses, the Old World Inn consists of 6 main buildings. The Cabernet House (1301 Jefferson St, Napa, 94559) was built in 1906 by E. J. Doughty, a master craftsman, responsible for some of the town's most beautiful homes and churches. It stayed in the Doughty family for years before being converted into the "Napa Valley Bed and Breakfast" in 1979. It was officially licensed as a B&B in February of 1981-- the first year such licenses became available. It has central air conditioning for those hot Napa summer days, as well as featherbeds and fireplaces for those romantic winter nights!

Behind Cabernet House is our Private Cottage, a very special stand-alone building, popular for romantic getaways. Next door to Cabernet House are the Napa Valley Suites or what we call "the Suite House." This house has five wonderful rooms, two of which are two-bedroom suites. The other three rooms are single-bedroom guest rooms, but we have a "suite option," where you can reserve another bedroom to make it a two-bedroom suite.

The Old World Inn's Main House (1556 Polk St, Napa, 94559) was built in 1874, and a large addition was added in the late 1880s. The Queen Anne addition was the creation of one of Napa's premier architects: Luther Turton. Rumor has it that the building was remodeled (in the early 1900s) by the same E.W. Doughty that built the original inn a block away. We are still checking the accuracy of this claim, but it makes sense, as Doughty built many of the large mansions in downtown Napa.

Just in back of the Main House are two lovely Craftsman cottages, built around 1906. Both of these cottages as well as the main house have been restored to reflect their original architecture—with the addition of brand new plumbing, electrical, and all new heating/cooling (with thermostats in each guest room). Each of the Craftsman Cottages has three guest rooms. The main house has 12 guest rooms, a living room, a lounge, and a wine cellar.

Each home feels friendly and relaxed, with warm wooden moldings and hardwood, stone, and tile floors throughout. Rooms are sunny and inviting, a perfect place to rest at the end of a long day. Featherbeds, fireplaces, individual private baths, and private two-person spa tubs are just a few of the many features waiting for overnight guests.

As one of Napa’s first bed and breakfasts, the Old World Inn is known for two things: homestyle food and friendliness. Guests are treated to a gourmet’s repast, from freshly baked chocolate chip cookies upon check-in, to a 5:30 wine reception, to mouthwatering chocolate desserts when they return back to the Inn each evening. Each morning begins with the smell of freshly ground coffee (or teas) and a two-course gourmet breakfast that gets you ready for a day of wine tasting.

From reservations at the perfect Napa restaurant to maps and special complimentary tastings at favorite wineries, the innkeepers have an uncanny ability to plan a perfect wine-country stay for you. Our guests often have such a wonderful time they tell us they don’t want to leave-- some even add on a day or two!

ALL of the above spots are walking distance from the Old World Inn-- some less than 5 minutes away!

There is so much more to share . . . check out our blog to catch up on the latest. Or go to our Facebook EVENTS page to find out about the private winery pourings we're having at our inn, just for our guests!

We love living in Napa.

And we have a blast sharing our favorite Napa restaurants, Napa Valley wineries, and fun spots with our guests.

What does it feel like to stay here?

Imagine that a good friend of yours moved to Napa a few years ago.

And you pay them a visit.

What spots would they recommend? Restaurants? Wineries? Would they be places with great reviews,

or just a tiny "hole in the wall" loved by locals?

That's the difference between a Napa B&B and a hotel.

And we have more fun surprises for you, too.

Please feel free to explore our website. Or better yet-- call us.

Ask questions. Tell us what you like-- and what you'd like to do on your trip here.

We'll do everything we can to help you.
